The tourism is with the salt mining the most important source of income in Torrevieja. It attracts almost 500,000 tourists every year. The good climatic conditions and the extensive coastline, along with the friendly and welcoming personality of its inhabitants, make Torrevieja one of the most important touristic destinations in Spain. The tourists in Torrevieja are mainly European.

In the last 10 years, there has been a massive inflow of people from the former Eastern Europe, such as Russia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Romania, Uzbekistan or Latvia. Generally, tourists come from Great Britain; Ireland; Germany; the Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland; Belgium, Holland and Luxemburg; Austria, Italy, France and Switzerland. There are nearly no Japan, Asian, American, Canadian or Australian tourists

Torrevieja has the largest number of tourist arrivals in April during Easter, and July and August during summer. In the last years, there has been a clear increase in the number of tourists coming from Spain and Northern Europe during Christmas time. Torrevieja is considered the second home by many people across Europe. There are more than 100,000 second homes here that are the residence of some visitors or that are rented during winter time. Usually, people rent bungalows or villas during a month or even a week. The prices can vary considerably, because everything depends on the desired season and the location.
